Scatterdays #6 Penniedarlings 'I'.

I - Coins, Italian from the 1960's, I knew they'd come in handy one day :-)

I - Tools, Iron which is hardly used but is very handy for those little patchworky seams.

I - Metal, Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Bust on this piece of metal.  Isambard Brunel is known for his Engineering works in Britain, check him out HERE.

I - Sewing Room Inchies, very handy little Inchies for my smaller works.

Scatterdays #4 - Penniedarlings 'C'.

 C -  Schooldays - Croydon Public is one of the 13 Schools I attended as a child, I was probably only here for a few months though.  When my father went back into the Army after WW2, we moved around a great deal.  During this time he often needed to be in Sydney for another Officers Training Course so we would move back into my Grandparents home in Strathfield and I would be taken to whichever School my Aunt or Uncle were teaching at, I notched up a lot of unmemorable schools in the late 1940's early 1950's.

C - Where I live -  this had me flummoxed for a while, then I thought I'd go up to our local shops and photograph the Chemist... but it isn't called a 'Chemist', now it's called a Pharmacy!   But silly me spotted these two eating places... which I should have remembered in the first place!  Doh!

The Cooks Garden is an excellent Restaurant in the shop which was originally a Post Office.

The Corner Cafe is pretty dreadful, the reviews online are less than positive which I'm not surprised about I don't know anyone who shops there but look at the crowd!

All these photos were taken with 'Grab' the 'Where I live' photos were taken on an Election Day hence all the people in The Corner Cafe!

Scatterdays #3 - Penniedarlings 'Q'.

Q - Plant = Quince.  I used to cook up Quinces, delicious they were but they take so long and are so hard to peel I don't bother anymore anyway one can buy the best Quince Paste from the local supermarket and we do love Quince Paste.

Q - Night Time = One night time soon one or both of these Quilts will be on our beds keeping us warm.  The one of the left is the one I bought from Bernadette Thomas about 10 years ago, I mended it and have started hand quilting it.  The one of the right I started in 2005 as handwork to take OS a the time, the top is almost finished with only 5 1/2 more rows to go.

Scatterdays #2 - 14.1.2013 - Penniedarling's 'R'.

R - Mammal = Ringtail Possums of which we have far too many! Both the above photos I took in our garden!!!

R - Technology = Heath Robinson had the most wonderful ideas for technical things...
       Picture #1 is  'The new Banting Machine Bed for reducing the figure'.
       Picture #2 is 'An antiquated method of filling the boilers without stopping the engine before the introduction of the water-trough system'.

I have grown up with Heath Robinson, his name was bandied about by my Grandparents then my Parents when I was a kid, everybody in the family loved it when someone fixed something or rigged something up in a rather dodgy but effective way... it was admired and called a 'Heath Robinson'!

Then when David and I were living in England in the 1970's we found several books with Heath Robinson's drawings, they are fascinating and many a child and even an adult have sat for hours devouring his work.

OMIGOSH I've just discovered there is a Heath Robinson Museum now open in the UK... that's going to the top of our 'Must Do' list for next time we're there and just look at the address...  Penningtons, Abacus House, 83 Gutter Lane, London
'The Red House'  the home of William Morris will be second :-)

Scatterdays #1 - 7.1.2013 - Penniedarling's 'W'.

W - Expensive = Wollogorang, cost a lot of money to build, cost a lot of money to run, cost a lot of money to restore and it would cost a lot of money to buy!  This is a back view taken out the window of my car as we sneaked past a couple of years ago... I would love to see the front view as it's been restored to what it was like originally, with it's pretty veranda which I never saw.

W - Music = Westside Story came to our local movie house in 1961, I was 16 years old and just loved, loved, loved it!  A modern version of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliette', tells the story of feuding families who form New York City gangs - the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Staring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn.
